Living in Middle Creek & Stone Crossing
Middle Creek is one of those neighborhoods that’s easy to drive past without noticing, and that’s part of why people like it. It sits just west of Flying Horse and south of Grey Hawk, off Voyager Parkway and Middle Creek Parkway. The streets curve around ponds and walking paths, and the landscaping has had close to two decades to grow in.
The lay of the land
You get into the neighborhood from Voyager Parkway by way of Middle Creek Parkway. From there, a handful of smaller enclaves branch off. The best known is Stone Crossing at Middle Creek, along with Middle Creek Manor, The Estates at Middle Creek, and other nearby sections.
The ground rolls enough that many homes have walkout basements and western views. Ponds and greenbelts run through the middle of the neighborhood, which gives it a more finished feel than newer areas where the open space is still mostly dirt and seed.
Middle Creek sits between Grey Hawk to the north, Flying Horse to the east and Trail Ridge at Northgate to the south, with Mary Kyer Park between it and Trail Ridge.
The homes
Most homes here were built from the early 2000s through the 2010s. They’re semi-custom and custom builds, generally on lots of a quarter to a third of an acre, with three-car garages and finished walkout basements as common features.
Stone Crossing is the more upscale end of the neighborhood. It sits on higher ground above the rest of Middle Creek, so many homes there get bigger views west toward Pikes Peak and the Front Range. That elevation is the main reason homes in Stone Crossing sell at a higher price point than the rest of the neighborhood.
Because many homes are 15 to 20 years old, you’ll see a mix of original condition and full renovations. That spread shows up in pricing, so comparing like with like matters.
Living here
The trails are the everyday amenity here. Middle Creek shares the La Foret Trail with Trail Ridge and Flying Horse, but this is where the trail gets the most attention. As it runs east toward Flying Horse, it passes ponds, water features, greenbelts and benches set up for sitting and taking in the view. It’s my favorite stretch of trail on the north side, and the kind of thing you use on a Tuesday evening, not just on weekends. Lizard Leap Park is technically a Flying Horse park, but it’s a short walk from Middle Creek along the same trail.
Interquest shopping and restaurants are a few minutes away, I-25 is close, and Flying Horse’s restaurant and public spaces are right up the road. If you live here, there’s also a local shortcut: Bridle Oaks Lane and a few side streets connect through to Flying Horse and the new King Soopers, which can save you the traffic on Voyager and North Gate Boulevard.
Mary Kyer Park sits on Middle Creek Parkway between Middle Creek and Trail Ridge, and both neighborhoods use it. It’s an 11-acre park with a paved loop around a pond, a waterfall, two playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, and a big open field.
Worth knowing before you buy
Separate HOAs. The enclaves within Middle Creek may each have their own HOA and covenants on top of any master association. Ask for all of the documents, not just one.
Mid-life systems. Homes from the 2000s are at the age where roofs, furnaces, water heaters and decks are often due. Find out what’s been replaced. One recent listing here, for example, noted a radon mitigation system, which is worth asking about on any home along the Front Range.
Schools. Middle Creek is in Academy School District 20. Verify assigned schools by address.
